For the first Verbena del Mercado at Mercado de Vallehermoso, Madrid Secreto partnered with the market as an official media partner and collaborated with Krudo on a special tapa: a creamy chipotle croquette with steak tartare and salsa macha.
On September 20, Madrid Secreto joined the Krudo team to create a tapa for the first La Verbena del Mercado. The collaboration brought together the market stall’s cooking and Madrid Secreto’s creative input in a one-day dish made especially for the event.
The creamy chipotle croquette was served with steak tartare and salsa macha, bringing together rich, smoky and spicy notes in a tapa created exclusively for the occasion.
The collaboration reflected the spirit of Mercado de Vallehermoso: a lively community of independent food businesses, each with its own identity, sharing space under one roof. For La Verbena, participating stalls created two special tapas each: one of their own and another in collaboration with guest chefs and restaurants.
From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., the market celebrated its food scene with a tapas route, live music and special activities. The program also included a competition for the event’s best collaborative tapa, judged by three food industry professionals. The Madrid Secreto and Krudo creation was one of the dishes made exclusively for the occasion.
As media partner for the event, Madrid Secreto helped bring La Verbena del Mercado to a wider audience. Collaborating with Mercado de Vallehermoso and Krudo was also a chance to celebrate the market through a dish that brought together its creative spirit and flavors inspired by Spain and Mexico.
Mercado de Vallehermoso first opened its doors in 1933 and has been part of daily life in Madrid's Chamberí district ever since. Originally a bustling neighborhood market, it went through decades of transformation and endured difficult years, when the rise of supermarkets and the economic crisis left its aisles largely empty for more than two decades.
Its revival began around 2015, when long-standing stallholders and a new generation of independent food and retail businesses joined forces to bring the market back to life. Today, Mercado de Vallehermoso blends the heritage of a traditional food market with a diverse culinary offering and a vibrant calendar of events, making it one of Madrid's go-to destinations to shop, dine, and discover what's happening in the city.
